Change and Growth
How we respond to change has a direct effect on our wellbeing.
Uncontrolled stress causes surges of cortisol in the body, which can suppress immune function and drain our natural resilience.
Yet, through the challenges that life presents us with, we attain an opportunity for personal growth. Change invites us to pause, reflect, and realign — to learn from life’s lessons rather than resist them; this is not easy, especially if we are feeling fearful, or unsupported.
It is important to feel a sense of control over our lives and manage stress without being hard on ourselves or forceful. Growth doesn’t come from pressure; it comes from awareness, curiosity, and compassion for ourselves as well as others as we evolve.
If we try to force things to stay the same because we fear change, we risk stunting our personal growth.
Life, like nature, is fluid. We are not designed to be stagnant. Each new season brings its own rhythm and wisdom.
Focusing on what we can do to move forward instaed of focusing on what we wish to hold onto enables us to change/adapt in a positive, more relaxed way. In doing so, we create space for insight, and renewal.
We have freedom of choice in how we respond to ourselves and to our environment. When the world is changing, we can choose to change along with it, not by losing ourselves, but by discovering deeper layers of who we are.
When we view change as a teacher rather than a threat, we begin to see the lessons it offers: patience, resilience, trust, and the courage to begin again.
To be willing to begin again, so important.
As Franklin D. Roosevelt reminded us, “There is nothing to fear but fear itself.”
With calm curiosity, we can transform fear into learning — and learning into growth.
