Personal Responsibility

We can focus on wellness productively when we are well. This enables us to build a robust framework for understanding what part we play in our wellness and recovery program. Wellness is an ongoing pursuit that requires combined personal and professional care.

The Principles of PNI outlined above form a framework for further understanding the need for combined mind and body care. This care is a professional consideration as well as a personal one.

PNI Practitioners

Being PNI Aware forms the understanding of the combined nature of the mind and body and chemical activation of the Bodymind, and the need for Direct Associated Care DAC

PNI Practitioners will be willing to support themselves and others in utilising their internal and external resources in a unified way. We have the option to combine our personal and professional care with a focus on self-generating wellness. Thoughts, feelings and emotions benefit from being reverently considered when reviewing physical health and vice-versa.

Accumulation

Stress and anxiety accumulate but so do positive calming thoughts. Our thoughts can generate the appropriate chemical response within ourselves to help us heal, be well, and stay well.

When we do not acknowledge our negative thinking, our thoughts accumulate and form the substance of who we are. This is the construct of psychoneuroimmunology; thoughts and feelings, conscious or otherwise, shape the content of how we relate to our sense of self. We chemically generate our living system through perception, projection, and our principles of living.

We cannot simply override our thoughts, but we can take the time required to calm our system down; this enables us to think more clearly and control our cognition. This is what we lose when we have emotionally consumed ‘cognition.’ It is known as being ‘emotionally hijacked’ or ‘triggered.’

Please take the time to consider the concepts outlined below regarding calming our internal system in terms of meditation, mindfulness, and our ability to visualise.

Meditation and Mindfulness do not just happen.

Meditation - calming our system down and letting thoughts pass without judgement.

Mindfulness -
calming our system down and letting thoughts pass, understanding that anything disturbing can be discussed with a professional later.

If we focus on a negative and positive outcome, feelings of confusion will be generated. We can note the negative and get support for what we find disturbing. This is a form of self-care; awareness of repressed emotions when they surface. Not everything that passes through our minds can be ignored.

Not everyone feels they can meditate.

Positive thinking is not wishing for a change. It is a way to generate change proactively, but it is not as easy as it sounds.

Meditation is a skill.

Yes, we have a natural propensity towards meditation, especially when we are calm and relaxed, hopeful or spiritually connected. Still, we can lose this form of self-connection through the strain and stress of daily life.

When we are agitated, it is hard to govern ourselves to sit in silence or listen to soothing music. It is essential to know that many good meditation coaches understand this and will lead you in a safe way to calmness. If you feel separated from such modes of activity, do a meditation session with someone else before you try it yourself.

Guiding the mind enables us to connect with ourselves more clearly; this is why meditation is so popular with mindfulness.

We can move from a negative projection of self to a positive, life-enhancing one.

This can be achieved by a range of mind interventions that respect the need for interlinking the body with emotional wellness. If we view this from a self-care perspective, we can aim to self-generate wellness by choosing to find ways to work through our emotions in a way that calms the body.

If we often think of the mind as body and the body as mind, we are starting from a good place; a solid foundation of understanding the unity of our human selves.

Fear generates fear, love creates love and so on.

When we are fearful, we become anxious and move towards what we are thinking about, so anxiety accumulates, and fear is reinforced. The point is this can happen in the mind. We can self-generate the fear response by thinking of the 'what if' and 'why.' Being aware of our need to manage the chemical reaction within places us in a better space to meditate, and we gain a pro-active mindset conducive to mindfulness.

We would not sit down to meditate in anger, and Mindfulness leads to mind-less-ness if we are unwilling to accept that life is challenging and the pursuit of happiness is not a goal or a point. Finding calmness and happiness in life can be found in the smaller moments, between the pain and strain of modern-day emotional living. We can aim to be calm when life is alarming.

Build a vision of success and visualise it often

Even if we don't believe an outcome is possible, we can set our imagination free by changing our beliefs and building our self-efficacy.

To the mind, our imagination is real!

We can use our imagination to be less fragmented.

We can choose a different path even when we can't see the endpoint.

We can visualise the best outcomes for ourselves and others.

We can own our truth by telling the truth to ourselves and making the changes we desire

Our imagination helps us to see the way forward.

Our imagination forms new ideas, images, and concepts, and the mind does not differentiate between what is true or fiction in terms of inner thinking.

Overthinking can be a form of escapism.

We do not need to view escapism as a bad thing.

Our imagination can form a distraction from unpleasant realities, similar to watching TV, having our favourite meal, or chatting with friends. Our vision helps us create solutions.

We can use our imagination pro-actively by asking ourselves questions and waiting for the answers to form from within us.

The aim is not to let our imagination run wild regarding negative thinking.

Acceptance that life is challenging or that life will form differing challenging situations can create the groundwork to build a vision of reality. We can use our imagination to calm and care and commune.

We can use our imaginations to find sunshine in the storms of life.

I understand the above words will sound flimsy if you are in crisis mode. Please believe you are stronger, smarter, and more resilient than ever. Ask yourself what life-enhancing step forward you can take in this moment. Let your imagination work with you. Just because I'm not with you doesn't mean I can't send you a hug; if you need a hug, take it now.

Self-Generating Wellness starts with the Imagination.

Self-connection limits rejection of self

The imagination is the re-generation centre of loving, living, and life, inside and outside the chaos.

To us, our imagination is often expressed as 'larger than life, but we cannot strive without it. Use it to your advantage, and do-not let 'your imagination run away with you.' Our imagination is not a separate self; it is the brilliance of our thinking when we do not let fear blind it.
